Just in time for the upcoming 41.1 GNOME Calls release, here is an updated Anti-Spam program, now with a much friendlier GUI!

I still marked it as a Beta, so tester's wanted!

vvmd and vvmplayer have been accepted in @debian unstable! They provide visual voicemail notification on Linux phones and have been contributed by @mobian dev @kop316 . Thanks and congrats!

Trump's new social network is preparing to launch... look familiar?

I advise you get on blocking the below domains.

You knew it was going to happen.

Boost it far and wide!

@anotherkiwiguy No problem ! Reading your previous post I wanted to find your new account, but I was glad to see you'd already sent a follow request :D

Apologies to everyone for the radio silence the last couple of days. I've been having technical issues.

TL;DR - My PC is no longer functional.

It has served me well for almost 10 years, through multiple upgrades and repairs. Unfortunately, the motherboard just couldnt hack it anymore, and bit the bullet.

Due to age, a replacement Motherboard just wont cut it, so I've had to acquire a Motherboard, CPU, Cooler and RAM. The new parts are on the way (unfortunately, I had not planned for this, and so the parts are lower spec'd than I'd have hoped), so I should be up and running again pretty soon.

The PEBKAC Show should still release on time (Nov. 1st), but quality may suffer slightly due to having to resort to using my underpowered Laptop.

Thanks for your patience!
Some really big changes inbound (some of you may have already noticed a follow request from me on another instance).

The new server is almost finished. I'll update as I progress!

Stay tuned :)

The Domain “kaitaia.life” is being dropped. This means my account and all associated posts on social.kaitaia.life are also being dropped (soon, just preparing for now). A new instance has been setup at contra.privacyhub.xyz

My new account is @anotherkiwiguy

The PEBKAC Show is also getting its own account @pebkac_show

I fully understand how inconvenient this is, and I apologise if it’s annoying. But if you feel like you still want to follow me or the podcast, please look me up there.

Thanks, you’re the best!

Why is this happening? (short version)

Basically, the small server running the instance of Pleroma is not powerful enough to cope with the large amount of content coming in, or being posted. Because of hardware limitations, it cannot be upgraded.

A new, long term instance has been created at contra.privacyhub.xyz, and this machine is a lot more powerful, and able to be upgraded in the future.

Why is this happening? (long version)

I originally hosted Pleroma via Yunohost, on a small Intel Atom based Shuttle. While it was sufficient at the time, it has since far outgrown the available resources of the machine.

There is also a rather nasty bug in the Yunohost Pleroma app that causes upgrades to fail, and crash. There is no known fix, and movement on the project has been stagnant. This essentially means, that unless I completely reinstall the Yunohost Pleroma app, I run the risk of any future upgrades breaking my system. This has been the case for almost a year now.

Rather than rely on a 3rd party to deal with any Pleroma issues, I thought that if I’m going to have to reinstall anyway, I might as well upgrade to a bigger machine, and pull Pleroma directly from the source.

Also, moving domains with a current installation is prohibitively difficult, as it would break federation, and require manual intervention in the database. Not an ideal situation.

This will also allow me to split The PEBKAC Show off from my own personal account. Meaning, I can post more about things I’m interested in, and offer my opinion without it interfering with the Podcast.

It also means that people can contact the podcast directly, and I can keep things nice and tidy. If I bring on anyone else to help in the future, I can share the access to the account.

Cheers for reading my ramblings, I know it’s a great wall o’text.

Thanks again!

This weekly update is a lot of work. I guess I won't be able to even watch parts of every video about the PinePhone Pro. I still hope to deliver it on time!

Insightful. We can't repeat often enough that @mobian , @debian , @postmarketOS , @manjarolinux and others would not be where they are now, without @purism adopting a cooperative upstreaming policy. We would wager that everyone purchasing a (true) Linux device now, benefits from your investments. There is plenty to criticize and nag about you 😝, but you are doing the whole FOSS community a service that could not easily be replicated by volunteers.

@zpojqwfejwfhiunz This is weirdly beautiful, and the cable management is perfect.

lookin for work [software dev or somethin] boosts appreciated

hey what's up gamers one of my bosses is ghosting me so i am looking for work [sunglasses emoji]

I have a CV at som.codes/cv.pdf and I am skilled with pretty much all the mainstream programming languages

I would like to be writing Rust for money but honestly I have rent to pay so, w/e

i am stuck in the UK for the next 2 years & i would like to work remote and my sleep pattern is Fucked so,, flexible hours? thank <3

Today, I ran a #github selfhosted runner on my @PINE64 #pinephone and used it to build #InfiniTime...

HOW COOL IS THAT!? My Pinephone, my Linux mobile phone ran the CI workflow of InfiniTime correctly and provided valid firmware in the end!

It's been a while, but I finaly got Feeds to work on #gtk4 / #libadwaita, including a very fresh build of #webkit

I've spent some time ironing out some porting bugs, but so far it looks really good!

There's still a lot of work to do, plus probably refactoring some stuff, but it's finally coming together!

My home server running #Yunohost was desperately outdated, it was still based on Debian Stretch! So as a good server admin I started the upgrade to Buster and left for work. Because what could go wrong, right? 😅

Kidding aside, I'm checking access to web services remotely (Nextcloud, Pleroma) and things seem fine for now. I had done a backup last night, and it's not like this is a critical server. 🤓

The next episode (S01E02) of the #PEBKAC Show is finally up! Lots and lots of news backed into this one.
